Wax Motif Australian born Danny Chien—aka Wax Motifi—has a lot on his mixing board at the moment, and all in way that a rising producer should have it. With his unique production and mixing skills that keep him high in demand, the support—and critical acclaim—from those like Knife Party, Diplo, Tiesto, A-Track, Crookers and many more have given Waxie no choice but to continually wow us, beat by beat. Waxxie just put out a massive “True Joy EP” and threw a stellar party in celebration of the release at LA’s hottest dance music destination, Sound Nightclub. He’s also released tracks through A-trak’s Fool’s Gold, Laidback Luke’s Mixmash Records and Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, a compilation on legendary label Strictly Rhythm as well as a host of remixes for the likes of Chromeo, Deadmau5, Warren G’s “Regulate” and more. More, we say.

No stranger to the festival circuit, Wax has played EDC Las Vegas, New York & Mexico, HARD Summer & Day of the Dead, Holy Ship, Future Music Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and Rhythm & Vines, to name a few, and as the man about music gears up to turn us out at this year’s CRSSD Fest at San Diego’s Waterfront Park—cause we have it that good in SoCal, and you can cop those tix right here—his musical selections and reasons why they resonate them now fill our digital space with smiles. Get to your new track discovery:

Ghastly – Bitch U Ghastly

Its such a banger. Using the OG Maco track “Bitch You Guessed it”, Ghastly combined it with a nasty as f drop perfect for giving the crowd a boost of fresh energy

Tchami – Afterlife

Been playing this every set since it came out. Its brooding intro section is really good at resetting the vibe and injecting that euphoric moment into the set

Cause & Affect – Get To The Chopper

Its a weird song the first time you hear it but it grew on me so much it ended up becoming a staple of my set. Its so unique in the sounds design and ideas and easily mixed in and out of. Also I’m a huge Chris Lorenzo fan too.

Loudpvck – Lit (AC Slater remix)

This badboy is LIT, no more words necessary.

Ty Dolla $ign ft. Future & Rae Sremmurd – Blase

My favourite Ty Dolla song this year. It’s simple and ratchet and is 128bpm so mixes perfectly in my set.

Curbi – Discharge

The whole song is essentially based off one melody but Curbi has managed to keep it interesting the whole time without the use of any vocals making for a real club banger.

Rae Sremmurd – No Type (Fawks remix)

I’ve been opening most of my sets with this. It gives me the use of the original but takes it somewhere fresh and new. Familiar into unfamiliar is prob the best way to introduce new sounds and this helps me set up the rest of my set just right.

Dario Nunez – Julian The Angel – Tokyo

Sampling the Teriyaki Boyz song from 2 Fast 2 Furious is a pretty genius move. The touch of nostalgia really gets people going but takes em to a whole new place. A reliable house banger for the techno clubs to the main stage.
