The Kaiser Permanente Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to Foothill Family, headquartered in Pasadena. The grant provides support of Foothill Family’s work to help young children from infancy thorough the age of five to overcome psychosocial barriers and function at age-appropriate levels.
“Foothill Family Service is deeply committed to empowering children and their families to overcome challenges and achieve success in relationships, school, and work,” said Steve Allen, Foothill Family Service Chief Executive Officer. “Receiving a grant from this generous foundation reinforces our belief that strong families are the cornerstones of thriving communities. It all starts with family.”
The grant from Kaiser Permanente will provide approximately 200 low-income children and their families throughout the San Gabriel Valley with mental health services, specifically working with young children whose behaviors place them at risk for developmental delays, preschool expulsion, or future school failure. Early intervention through services such as Foothill Family’s Early ESTEEM Program helps children to improve their ability to function at home, in school and within varied social environments so that they can enter kindergarten ready to learn and to achieve academic and personal success.
“Kaiser Permanente is driven by our social mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities in which we serve,” says Maggie Pierce, executive director, Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center. “Through our work with local agencies and our community benefit grant program that enables us to address some of the health and social issues facing our communities, we are able to realize this mission. In these challenging economic times, it is even more crucial that our social commitment remain strong. We are honored to work with Foothill Family to help build healthy communities impacting current and future generations.”
Foothill Family Service was founded in 1926 and provides a range of community-based mental health and social services to at-risk populations in Southern California. Its mission, to build brighter futures for children and families, has helped Foothill Family earn a reputation for providing high quality services aimed at empowering families and strengthening communities.
