Lights, Camera, Action! takes place this weekend on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Santa Anita Race Track and Sunday, Aug. 9 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The world-class orchestra, under the direction of the Maestro Victor Vener, will perform music from such blockbusters as Jurassic Park, Star Wars, and Lawrence of Arabia as well as a spine-tingling rendition of the “Main Title” and “Shower Scene” from Psycho.

Noted violinist Armen Anassian will also shine during Lights, Camera, Action! as he mesmerizes audiences during his performance of Korngold’s romantic Violin Concerto.

Anassian, who was California Philharmonic’s featured soloist in 2009 with the Korngold Concerto and 2002 with the Tchaikovsky Concerto, is also looking forward to sharing the stage with another talented violinist, his wife Erlinda, also a member of the orchestra. “I love working with my lovely wife,” said Anassian. “We treat these times as special dates.”

Lights, Camera, Action! also includes performances of Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony and Roger Allen Ward’s 1st symphony.

“I am thrilled that California Philharmonic is brining my music to life once again,” said Cal Phil’s Composer-In-Residence, Roger Allen Ward. “My first symphony originally debuted with the orchestra in 2009. I am honored to be able to share my music with our treasured Cal Phil audiences in both iconic venues. It is especially exciting because this will be the first time it is performed at Santa Anita Race Track with its majestic backdrop of the San Gabriel Mountains.”

Cal Phil’s season finale, Postcards From Abroad, takes place on Saturday, Aug. 22 and Sunday, Aug. 23.
