On July 1, Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus welcomed a new Head of School. Kate Morin, a faith-filled leader with over 23 years of experience, comes to Mayfield Senior School as an accomplished administrator, educator, and innovator. Morin believes that by providing students with a culture of optimism, connectivity, joy, and support, they will develop into the leaders of tomorrow.

Morin believes that by providing an enriching, faith-filled environment, young women are able to develop and practice their leadership skills and harness their enthusiasm about social justice and service. This forward-thinking philosophy coupled with Morin’s impressive background made her the perfect fit as Mayfield Senior School’s 14th Head of School.

Morin was selected in October 2014, after Rita McBride, Mayfield Senior School’s longest standing Head, decided to step down.

“We are infused with confidence and gratitude that we have found in Kate Morin the perfect leader to guide our future,” Board Chair Marla Alders said. “She is enthused by our parents and alumnae who so clearly express their love for the school. But, most of all, she is inspired by the students whom she sees as confident, vibrant learners and leaders who truly exemplify ‘Actions Not Words.’ In short, she is thrilled and honored to be selected as our next leader.”

Morin and her husband, Skip, made the cross-country move from Bethesda, Maryland, to Pasadena in late June. Skip earned his doctorate in Musicology from New York University and has served as a professor in the Music Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, for the past 23 years. With their three sons having successful careers and beginning families of their own, Kate and Skip feel blessed that they can embark on this new and exciting adventure.

In addition to her adult sons, Kate likes to say that she has a four-legged son who is a beautiful and affectionate quarter horse/thoroughbred named Juice. Together, Juice and Morin gain physical, psychological and spiritual benefits by training in lower-level dressage. Juice will, of course, be joining Kate and Skip in Southern California.

Through research and her own experience, Morin has found that single-sex Catholic schools provide the best environment for young women to gain confidence and practice leadership skills. Morin believes that the world needs more women leaders and has seen firsthand how the culture that exists at Mayfield Senior School creates a sisterhood of support and love that lasts a lifetime.

Morin plans to meet as many members of the Mayfield community as possible by having one-on-one discussions.

“My hope is that through these meetings, students, faculty, staff and parents will get to know me as well so that we can begin forging meaningful and enduring connections. I immediately knew I found a community filled with joy and energy in which students and faculty enter whole-heartedly into the mission of helping girls become smart, loving, faith-filled leaders. For me this is irresistible!”
