The City of Arcadia Recreation and Community Services Department seeks resident input on park facilities and recreation programs. The City of Arcadia has retained Integrated Consulting Group (ICG), a southern California planning and architecture firm, to help update the City’s 2007 Recreation and Park Master Plan. According to Sara Somogyi, Director of Recreation and Community Services, “changing demographics, increased demand, new trends in recreation, the need to be more water and energy efficient, and prioritization of future capital improvement projects” are the reasons the City of Arcadia is undertaking this new planning effort.

The master planning process is expected to take at least a year and will include extensive community input in the form of citywide resident surveys, workshops, stakeholder involvement, and a series of focus group meetings with the people and organizations the City partners with to deliver community services.

Based on resident input tools the final master plan will determine short term and long term park development, space allocation for youth, adult and senior recreation programs, and potential fees and funding strategies for maintaining and operating the city’s park and recreation system.

The first phase of the process is to have ICG document the existing conditions of current recreational facilities and identify issues relating to deferred maintenance, health & safety, access, water and energy consumption, and space suitability for meeting current and future program needs.

When the existing conditions analysis is complete ICG and city staff will begin the resident input process, which is expected to start in the summer and continue through the fall. The final document is expected to be ready for public review in early 2016 with adoption scheduled for later that spring.

Residents can check the master plan status and get information on workshops and meeting dates on the city’s web site at www.ci.arcadia.ca.us. For questions about the plan, or to participate in the project, please call the Recreation and Community Services Department Office at (626) 574-5113.
