On Tuesday afternoon at approx. 4:30 PM Monrovia Fire dept. requested additional resources from Arcadia and Los Angeles County fire depts. to battle a structure fire at 406 South Canyon when they learned the fire had apparently spread into the 3 unit building’s attic. Firefighters and Monrovia police quickly evacuated the immediate area.
Division Chief Brad Dover of Monrovia Fire said the fire started in the laundry room and was electrical in origin and quickly spread through units B and C due to the wood frame. Division Chief Dover said the fire literally “ climbed the wall and got into the attic.”
There was additional damage to a building to the north where all the meters had to be replaced by Edison.
Most of the damage was confined to the Attic but nonetheless there was significant structural damage , approximately $150,000 and approximately $75,000 damage to contents.
One resident’s dog was slightly burned and transported to the Humane Society where it is expected to survive with minor burns to its fur.
City officials red-tagged units B & C and Unit A was cleared for the resident to return. The Red cross assisted those displaced by the fire
