Temple of the Goddess evening of art and ritual theatre in Pasadena in celebration of the Fall Equinox is slated for Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013. “Journey with us through ritual theater as we call upon the ancient Hindu goddess Sarasvati. In Her enduring wisdom, Sarasvati graciously offers each of us the spark of creativity and the abiding fire of wisdom. “
Everyone is invited. After 6:45 p.m. arrivals for first-timers with questions, doors will open at 7:00 p.m. The ritual will be conducted from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. A donation of $20 per person is suggested to benefit Temple of the Goddess, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization.
Fall is a time of Thanksgiving, of gifts and blessings worldwide. Day and night are equal and the balance of giving and taking, of light and dark, summer and winter, life and death are the focus of this Sabbat. Though the year is waning and winter approaches, the emphasis is less on death than on the message of rebirth in the season of plenty.
The Wise Woman’s Autumn myth is a modern telling of the Goddess, Sarasvati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts, science and the free flow of her wisdom, creativity, and consciousness. She is the Goddess of the River and a major goddess of the Hindu pantheon.
Sarasvati is a beautiful goddess, luminous, shining bright as the moon. She is often depicted as having eight arms, each of her hands holds a symbol of her power . . . a trident, conch, pestle, bow, arrow, bell, discus, and plow. Mounted on a white swan – symbol of purity and discrimination – she plays the music of love and life on a stringed instrument called the veena. A goddess of grace, filled with the abiding confidence of deep wisdom, Sarasvati offers her followers True Knowledge, symbolized by a beautiful white lotus.
