HOPE INTERNATIONAL CHURCH OF ARCADIA WELCOMES NEW PASTOR INTO THE COMMUNITY: INSTALLATION SERVICE ON SEPTEMBER 29
Rev. Sam Lee is the new Co-Pastor for English Language Ministry at Hope International Church at 1741 S. Baldwin Avenue in Arcadia.
Rev. Lee-who likes to be called “Sam”-has returned to California from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he was a Resident Pastor at Church of the Servant. He also served at urban and suburban churches in Los Angeles and Detroit, Michigan, where he focused on building authentic relationships, nurturing a new generation of leaders with multi-cultural openness and a vision for restored, revitalized communities.
“My family and I are so excited to join fellow servants at Hope, who are uniquely living out the vision of ‘unity in community’ in a real and genuine sense of the word in spite of and beyond color and cultural differences,” said Sam. “I can’t wait to see our awesome vision in action by serving greater San Gabriel Valley community with God’s radically refreshing love.”
Although he was born in South Korea, Sam considers himself a native Southern Californian because he first moved to the area when he was 10. Sam earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California. He received a Master’s of Divinity from Calvin Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids.
“Sam is a 1.5 generation Korean-American pastor with multi-perspectives. He naturally relates to first- and later-generation immigrants as well as American-born citizens because he has been living in diverse contexts that that gave him cultural sensitivities and insights. It’s his story!” said Rev. Sid Sybenga, Sam’s fellow Co-Pastor for English Language Ministry at Hope. Sybenga added, “I believe that God will use Sam’s many gifts, life stories and experiences in various outreach ministries to powerfully communicate how and why God’s big story relates to different persons’ own stories.”
Sam is married to Jihye, an exceptional pianist. The couple has two children, Jacob, 10, and Janice, 8. Sam’s hobby include fishing, watching ESPN, lunch-ing, and buying a cup of coffee or tea for a stranger who wants to talk about life.
Sam will be officially installed at Hope International Church on Sunday, September 29, at 10 a.m.
