Police Blotters 11/8/12

Arcadia PD
Sunday, October 21:
At about 1:10 a.m., officers responded to The Patio, 21 East Huntington Drive, regarding an argument involving three subjects. During the investigation, one of the subjects refused to take his hands out of his pockets, and place them on top of his head, as ordered by officers. Though initially non-compliant, the subject ultimately complied with the officers’ orders, and was arrested for both delaying an officer in the course of his duties and public intoxication. The other two subjects involved in the argument were also arrested for public intoxication.
At approximately 1:47 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of S. Eighth Avenue in reference to a road rage incident that resulted in vandalism. The victim reported that a White male adult, with gray-colored eyes, stopped her on the road because he believed she had cut him off. As a result, he kicked her front bumper, broke her driver’s side mirror, and kicked her door. The victim wrote down the suspect’s license plate number as he left the area, but no matches were found on the plate number in the DMV database.
Monday, October 22:
Around 7:23 p.m., officers responded to the 000 block of Alta Street regarding a theft involving a wife and her estranged husband. The wife reported that she believed her estranged husband had stolen an identification card and gift card from her purse during a visit a few days earlier.
At about 9:45 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop for expired registration in the area of Oakhurst Lane and Colorado Street. The driver of the white Buick provided the officer an expired license. The 60-year-old White female was subsequently cited and released in the field. Her vehicle was left legally parked at the scene.
Tuesday, October 23:
Around 1:21 a.m., officers responded to Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, regarding a battery. Investigation revealed an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend turned into a physical altercation wherein the boyfriend was the aggressor. The boyfriend grabbed the girlfriend by the hair, caused her to fall to the ground, and forced her to surrender her car keys and cell phone before driving away in her car. The car was recovered in Fontana later that day, and was released back to the girlfriend. The suspect remains outstanding.
At about 1:43 p.m., an officer responded to the 2300 block of Lee Avenue in regards to a burglary occurring while residents were home. The suspect attempted to enter the residence through an opened, rear window, and was confronted by a female resident. The male suspect then fled the location without actually entering the residence. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 25–35 years old, with black, spiky hair.
Prior to the burglary, one of the residents heard the doorbell ring. By the time they answered the door, nobody was there. The burglary occurred moments later. This practice by suspects seems to be a consistent pattern in recent burglaries throughout the city.
Wednesday, October 24:
Around 12:06 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Lemon Avenue and Grace Avenue to assist with the disposal of a grenade. Upon arrival, officers briefly examined the grenade, and believed it was inert. However, as a precautionary measure, the Los Angeles County Bomb Squad was dispatched for assistance. Their investigation confirmed the grenade was inert, and all residents asked to evacuate their residences during the incident returned to their homes a short time later. At about 9:45 p.m., an officer responded to Macy’s at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding an adult subject in custody for theft. The 34-year-old Chinese female concealed items inside her purse, and exited the store without paying for them. Police took custody of the suspect, and transported her to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Thursday, October 25:
Shortly after 3:50 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the President’s Square parking lot, 1300 South Golden West Avenue, regarding a vandalism, and theft by trick or device. The victim returned to his vehicle after shopping to find that someone had dented and scratched it. The victim was simultaneously approached by an unknown male who offered to fix the damage onsite. When the victim photographed the suspicious male’s license plate, the unknown male immediately drove away.At approximately 6:21 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Arcadia Public Library, 20 West Duarte Road, in reference to a theft. The victim was inside the Library for the better part of two hours before discovering that her car keys and wallet were missing from her backpack. The victim was not sure if the property had been stolen from her backpack, or if she had left the property in the library bathroom earlier in the day. In either case, someone took her property without her permission.
Friday, October 26:
At about 2:17 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling on the wrong side of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and the 28-year-old Hispanic female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. Around 9:30 a.m., officers responded to Healthcare Partners Medical Group, 440 East Huntington Drive, regarding a commercial burglary. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) committed the burglary during the late night hours of October 25th to the early morning hours of October 26th, and stole three laptop computers. No signs of forced entry were detected by officers, nor were there any other indications of how the suspects gained entry into the building.
Saturday, October 27:
At about 1:47 a.m., an officer contacted a subject staggering in the area of Clark Street and Cogswell Road. Upon contact with the 23-year-old Hispanic male, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on the subject’s breath, and noticed other objective symptoms of intoxication as well. The officer determined the subject was unable to care for his safety, and arrested him for public intoxication.
Shortly after 1:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Macy’s parking lot at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a vandalism involving a vehicle. The vehicle’s owner indicated that she believed the vandalism was the result of a parking dispute she had with another driver earlier that day. Though the owner did not actually see the vandalism occur, she can identify the person whom she had the dispute with if seen again.

Monrovia PD
Commercial Burglary / Grand Theft Auto
October 29 at 6:53 a.m., police responded to the report of a burglary and stolen vehicle from a business located in the 500 block of East Fig Avenue. Unknown suspect(s) broke into the business and loaded up tools and equipment into a company truck, and then drove away with the property and the truck. The vehicle is a white, 1991, Dodge Ram truck. The investigation is continuing.
Commercial Burglary
October 29 at 7:12 p.m., the owner of a business in the 500 block of South Shamrock called to report a theft had occurred earlier in the morning that they just discovered when they were reviewing surveillance footage of the store. The footage showed a male Black and female Black had entered the store together. The male subject distracted the employee, while the female took items and concealed them in her purse. The investigation is continuing.
Hit and Run Traffic Accident / Driving Under the Influence
October 30 at 1:52 a.m., officers were dispatched to a solo vehicle traffic accident. It appeared a single vehicle traveling north on Peck Road struck a parked vehicle on the east side of the street. The vehicle struck a parked car, spun out of control, struck a steel fence along the wash, and then finally hit a power pole and came to rest. Any occupants fled the scene prior to police arrival. After approximately 20 minutes, the driver who had fled the scene called police and told the dispatchers his location. Police located the subject and Los Angeles County Fire paramedics arrived and rendered first aid. The driver was determined to be driving under the influence. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The District Attorney will be reviewing the case for filing charges.
Petty Theft from Vehicle
October 30 at 8:05 p.m., a theft from a vehicle was reported in the 800 block of West Foothill. The victim parked the vehicle in his complex parking lot and left the vehicle unlocked. When the victim returned to the vehicle the next day, he saw that someone had taken a coat, an Ipod and some Christmas ornaments from inside the vehicle. Investigation continuing.
Outside Assist – Secret Service Search Warrant
October 31 at 6:35 a.m., Monrovia detectives and patrol staff assisted the U.S. Secret Service in a search warrant service at a location in the 400 block of East Greystone. One suspect was arrested for five warrants, two were no-bail warrants, and a second suspect was arrested for nine counts of identity fraud.
Vehicle Vandalism
On November 2 at 5:57 a.m., a vehicle was reported vandalized in the 700 block of West Huntington. It was determined that a rock was used to break the window of the victim’s Dodge RAM truck. The victim has no idea who would vandalize his truck as he is not from this area. Investigation continuing.
Grand Theft Auto
On November 4 at 2:52 a.m., a vehicle was reported stolen from the 200 block of South Shamrock. The victim parked the vehicle on the street at 11:00 p.m. in the evening and locked the doors and windows. The victim looked outside the window at about 2:30 a.m. and saw vehicle was missing. The vehicle stolen was a 1996 Silver Acura. The investigation is continuing.
Unlawful Discharge of a Shotgun / Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
On November 4 at 10:01 p.m., a 45-year-old male subject was in an alley in the 200 block of West Lime and he unlawfully and intentionally fired his new shotgun in the air. He then drove away from the scene in a blue jeep with the shotgun. He had been visiting family in the 200 block of West Lime and was returning to Los Angeles. Officers located and stopped the male subject a couple blocks from the scene and found the shotgun in the vehicle. The subject was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. The ejected shotgun shell casing was found in the alley next to the house he had been visiting. The suspect was arrested for negligent discharge of the weapon and for driving under the Influence of alcohol.

Sierra Madre PD
Monday October 29
At 12:30am a vehicle travelling north on Baldwin Avenue failed to stop for the stop sign at Orange Grove Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated and the officer determined that the driver had been drinking. The driver (male 56 years of age) failed to perform the Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently arrested for DUI.
A traffic collision took place at 8:15am when a vehicle travelling west on Highland Avenue entered the intersection at Michillinda Avenue without safely yielding to northbound traffic. The driver of the northbound vehicle sustained minor injury. At 7:15pm, two parents became involved in a verbal argument during a child visitation exchange. At one point, the father grabbed the mother by the arm and made a threatening statement to her. No injuries were reported and the father was arrested for Battery.
Tuesday October 30
A resident in the 400 block of Orange Grove Avenue reported that two packages delivered by UPS had been stolen from her front porch. The front porch is easily visible from the street. At 11:30pm, officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 100block of West Carter Avenue. The investigation revealed that a domestic argument had taken place and escalated into a physical altercation. Although both parties had visible injuries, it was determined that the husband was the primary aggressor and he was arrested for Domestic Violence.
Thursday November 1
At 4am, an officer observed a traffic violation in the area of Sierra Madre Boulevard and Auburn Avenue. After initiating a traffic stop, the officer determined that the driver had been drinking. The driver (male 29 years of age) failed to perform the Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently arrested for DUI.
Friday November 2
A residential burglary occurred in the 100 block of West Alegria Street between
1-3pm. Unknown suspect(s) removed a front bedroom window screen, opened the unsecured window and entered the residence. The suspect(s) ransacked several rooms and then left the residence using the front door. The victim was unable to immediately determine what property had been taken.
Saturday November 3
During the period of 7:30 to noon, an unknown suspect entered a vehicle parked in the Baily Canyon parking lot by smashing the driver’s side window with an unknown object. The suspect removed a camera from the center console and left without being seen.
