Kendrec McDade’s Father Voices Concern Over DA Decision
Attorney Carree Harper Says Determination is “Travesty of Justice”
After last week’s decision by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office not to prosecute a 9-1-1 caller, a family attorney lashes out.
The caller who prompted Pasadena police to shoot and kill a suspect in false report in March, Oscar Carrillo was facing manslaughter charges for lying about the suspect carryiung a gun.
Attorney for Kendrec McDade’s father, Caree Harper , said: “The failure of the District Attorney to file FELONY false report charges against Carrillo is a travesty of justice. The Chief was grandstanding when he arrested Carrillo for involuntary manslaughter instead of felony false report and he used that media attention to divert from Griffin and Newlen, the men who really killed Kendrec. The D.A. delayed this announcement until one day before the 7 month anniversary Kendrec was shot because now Kendrec’s case is no longer the flavor of the month and their failure to charge a felony will unfortunately just be a footnote in the news now.”
