In a world where fresh talent is being discovered and fostered in progressive new ways including American Idol, reality shows and the internet, the time – and need — for an innovative up-to-date talent agency has never been better. Enter KALM Talent Group.
Beacon Media recently had the opportunity to meet with the man behind the music agency, accomplished entrepreneur and philanthropist Kerry Kessel, along with one of KALM Talent Group’s newly signed artists, 17 year old contemporary country singer and songwriter Lexi Ulmer.
Inspired by the quality and range of untapped talent and the success of such young powerhouses as Justin Bieber whose rise to fame began on You Tube, Kessel built KALM Talent Group upon a model of “extreme interactivity.” In addition to traditional methods of discovering new talent, KALM heavily utilizes the power of the internet for everything from discovering and auditioning perspective clients to presenting the gifts of its signed young artists to major record labels via www.kalmtalentagency.com.
“Times have changed and so must the way we do business,” said forward-thinking Kessel who created KALM to complement the evolving music industry.
Backing his words with actions, Kessel was joined by one of his most recent discoveries, 17 year old country singer/songwriter Lexi Ulmer, who traveled from Lake Arrowhead to Los Angeles for a two day recording session where she performed with pro drummer Gregg Bissonette among others. Bissonette, a Detroit native, is one of the most versatile drummers in the business. He has played with David Lee Roth, Don Henley, Santana, Ringo Starr, to name but a few.
Kessel discovered Lexi after viewing posts of her singing her original songs on various social media websites.
“I am thrilled to be a KALM Talent Group artist and to work closely with the team to advance my career,” said Ulmer. “The recording session was amazing. I am so fortunate to work with such established and talented musicians on my original songs. This whole experience has been an amazing opportunity so far and I know it is only the beginning. Beyond exciting!”
Next up for Lexi is a live performance of many of her original songs during the second annual “A Walk In Their Shoes” benefit in Redlands, CA on Friday October 12, 2012. Lexi has teamed with the non-profit YouthHope to help raise awareness of the plight of homeless youth.
Starting at a very early age of 11, Lexi was playing and singing her heart out for her parents and friends. She told Beacon Media that her main inspiration now is Taylor Swift. However Lexi is unique in her own right. Ulmer sings with passion of a woman with many more than her chronological 17 years.
With her genre being Contemporary Country, Ulmer eludes a graceful confidence in composition and execution. There is a nuance of Lexi in every song – an identity which will soon become her calling card, if you will.
“We have worked diligently to create an environment where remarkable talent can further develop their skills, personally and as artists, and find not only their voice but a worldwide audience to share it with,” added Kessel who, with the formation of KALM, successfully blended his keen business sense and desire to help others with his life-long passion for music.
“KALM Talent Group may be new to the music industry but its appreciation of exceptional music and commitment to partnering with vastly talented artists of varying genres is deep-rooted,” said Kessel who also recently signed soulful singer songwriter Lauren Lanzaretta, marking the second signed artist in the less than two weeks since the agency was formed.
The agency is also gearing up to officially launch RETAKE, a division of the agency dedicated to signing former television talent show contestants.
Aspiring singer and songwriters of original songs are encouraged to learn more about KALM Talent Group by visiting kalmtalentagency.com and find out the many new ways that they can be considered as a potential KALM Talent Group artist.
“Working with KALM and Kerry Kessel is an opportunity of a lifetime,” said an enthusiastic Ulmer on Sunday. Kessel said it best himself. “KALM is a boutique management company where quality of talent is far more important than quantity.”
