On Saturday May 26, 2012 at 4:51 pm, Arcadia Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire at a park in the 500 block of Fairview Avenue. Engine 106 arrived on scene and reported a 10 foot by 20-foot section of bushes on fire. Suppression personnel deployed 200 feet of 1 ½” hose line to extinguish the fire within minutes of arrival, preventing the fire from spreading to the adjacent apartment complex. The fire was contained to the area of origin. It appears to have started in the barbeque area and spread to adjacent brush from burning embers left unattended. The property loss is estimated at $500.
On Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 8:50 pm, Arcadia Fire Department, assisted by Monrovia and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of Las Tunas Drive. Engine 105 arrived on scene to report a single story single-family structure with smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. Upon further investigation, suppression personnel reported that they had a fully involved patio/storage area to the rear of the property that had spread to two adjacent residential buildings. While firefighters attacked the fire in the patio area, others were assigned to protect the residences to the east and west of the involved structure. Although the fire was knocked down within minutes of arrival, suppression crews remained on scene for approximately three hours to overhaul the structures and determine fire cause and origin. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, originating in the patio area. The main structure sustained approximately $80,000 in damage.
