Assemblymember Anthony Portantino was honored Monday by the Junior Leagues of California as their State Legislator of the Year. Assemblymember Portantino was recognized for his introduction of several important bills over the last several years in the areas of health, education and violence prevention.

“I am very honored to receive this award from the Junior Leagues of California. Pasadena has a very active Junior League chapter and it really makes fighting for youth in foster care to making sure that every woman has access to mammograms and ensuring that rapists are brought to justice a team effort. Together, we are committed to defending our fundamental rights and these important women’s health issues,” said Portantino.

The Junior Leagues of California are currently supporting two bills authored by Portantino: AB 1956 which would allow victims of human trafficking to qualify for tattoo removal and AB 1682 which extends the statute of limitations for rape charges.

Portantino was also cited for his work with the Junior League of Pasadena including Kids in the Kitchen, Community Expo and reading at the Mothers Club.
