On April 27, 2012 shortly before 2:00 a.m., family members reported 55-year-old Mark Allen Craychee as a missing person. Craychee has a history of psychological issues and the family feared he may be suicidal.

Shortly after 7:00 a.m. this morning Craychee’s vehicle was found parked and unoccupied in a turnout along Santa Anita Canyon Road. Steep embankments lined the roadway both above and below the turnout.

Members of the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team were called to assist. At about 9:30 a.m., Craychee was located. He apparently hanged himself in a tree about 150 yards from his vehicle. The L.A. County Coroner was called to the scene to remove the remains and the family was notified.

Santa Anita Canyon Road was closed during the investigation.
