San Gabriel Valley Choral Company’s “So British” June 28

The San Gabriel Valley Choral Company, under the baton of guest conductor Karsten Longhurst, presents a concert entitled “So British” on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Monrovia. Enjoy works spanning over half a millennium of English music by composers such as Morely, Purcell, Holst, and Britten. A silent auction with refreshments will be held prior to the concert, beginning at 6:30. Tickets are $5 to $20 and are available online (www.choralcompany.org), by phone (626-579-2433), or at the door.

Take a journey of fiery love, celebration, youthful jest and sacred devotion. The program will feature madrigals by Gibbons, Wilbye, Bennet, Farmer, and Morely; choral organ masterpieces by Elgar, Mendelssohn, and Howells; and other timeless choral pieces by Handel, Purcell, Britten, and Sullivan. The diverse selection of auction items include amusement park tickets; out-of-town getaways; restaurant and hotel certificates; tickets to sporting events, museums concerts, plays, musicals, and the ballet; gift baskets; and more. Please bring your friends and family to experience a snapshot of over 500 years of Britain’s legacy of singing!

Guest Conductor Karsten Longhurst is a conductor, singer, educator, and DMA student in choral music at the University of Southern California. He earned an MM in choral conducting at the University of Utah in 2010, and double bachelor degrees in Music Education and German from Weber State University. In the community, Karsten is the music director for youth and adult choirs for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pasadena.

Founded in 1995, the San Gabriel Valley Choral Company is a non-profit choir based in Monrovia, CA. The Choral Company performs three to four concerts per year, singing a broad repertoire that includes classical, spirituals, pop, jazz, opera, folk music, and musical theater. Under the direction of Artistic Director Zanaida Robles and comprised of singers from throughout the Southland, the choir provides an opportunity for its members to challenge themselves and to share their love of music with San Gabriel Valley residents.
