10 Brunch Items to Die For…Literally

You’ve worked hard all week—at the office and the gym. The 4th of July weekend is finally here and let’s face it: you deserve to splurge, especially on the fine Sunday after your fireworks turn-up. Foie gras-topped French Toast or bourbon-bacon chocolate pancakes may be a tad overboard on the indulgent factor. But, so what? If you won’t tell our trainers, we won’t tell yours. Here are our picks for the most ridiculously decadent, don’t-even-bother-counting-calories-for-fear-of-eyes-rolling-back-in-your-head brunch items in L.A.:

WESTSIDE | 1. Twenty Spot Munchie Box, Abigaile

1301 Manhattan Ave., Hermosa Beach

Inspired by Jack In the Box’s “Munchie box”, Abigaile’s version consists of a waffle bacon burger, tater tots and fries slathered in Cheez-Whiz and a Mexican coke ice cream float.

2. Hangtown Frittata, B.P. Oysterette

2 Locations: 1355 Ocean Avenue, Santa Monica; 8048 W 3rd Street, Los Angeles

For a twist on a platter of raw oysters for brunch, check out the bacon, chive and cheese frittata with a heap of fried Pacific oysters.

3. Chocolate Bacon Bourbon Pancakes, Ox & Son

1534 Montana Ave, Santa Monica

Bacon, syrup, chocolate and WHISKEY? Best foursome ever.

MID-CITY | 4. The Stoner, The Larchmont

5750 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles

Thick slices of brioche French Toast with peanut butter, roasted bananas, slices of bacon and foie gras powder would suffice for a blowout brunch. Add a slice of sauteed foie gras and it’s divine…and deadly.

5. Crunch Berry® Donut, Plan Check

Three Locations in L.A.: 1800 Sawtelle Blvd; 351 N Fairfax Ave; 111 Wilshire Blvd, DTLA

Rainbow-colored cereal coated donuts are cool, but the real magic is the cereal milk cream whip cream (not shown in photo, you’re gonna have to trust us). Way to cereal kill it, Chef Uchimura!

6. After School Cinnamon Toast, Stir Market

7475 Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles

Piping hot cinnamon brioche toast slathered in apple butter and marscapone cream—just the way Mom used to make it…sorta.

VALLEY  |  7. Chicken Fried Chicken, Fat Dog

Two Locations: 801 N Fairfax Ave, WEHO; 11050 Magnolia Blvd, NOHO

Hmm, the Chicken Fried Chicken with a house made buttermilk biscuit, a fried egg, and sausage gravy or the Brioche Bread Pudding with mascarpone and Nutella sauce? So many choices for a splurge Sunday, plus Matthew Biancaniello’s forage-to-glass cocktails at the NOHO locale.

8. Joe’s Raviolo, Idle Hour

4824 Vineland Ave, NOHO

Sloppy Joe tidies up as its neatly tucked into a raviolo and topped with buffalo mozzarella, a fried egg, and green onion relish.

DTLA  | 9. Pulled Pork and Egg, KTCHN

New pop-up brunch restaurant as of June 27th: 357 S. Broadway St., Los Angeles

Chef Felix Barron is an ‘egg-pert’ and tosses one on almost everything, including those manly open-faced sandwiches, from BBQ (in photo below) to corned beef to pulled pork.

10. Eggs Benedict Pizza, Faith & Flower

705 W 9th St, Los Angeles

Topped with eggs, smoked bacon, spinach, and hollandaise sauce, this is a genius mash-up of morning-after party foods we all crave.
