The American Legion Post 13 and You Matter-Not Alone, a suicide and prevention awareness organization, are collaborating to bring to the community an incredible opportunity to support local veterans at the Comedy Saves Lives  fundraiser on Nov. 2.

The event will be held at the historic American Legion Post 13. There will be a mixer cocktail reception followed by a night of comedy entertainment.

Post member and Army veteran Ariel Bailey—who recently played a big role in creating a museum of Legion Post 13’s 100 years of history, that is now available to visit—shared: “The Post and its members are welcoming and helpful without judgment, ready to go that one step further to help their fellow veterans. In my own experience, there are too few places where that remains true. Preserving and supporting such a network of veterans, veterans’ assistance, and a place where veterans can meet fellow veterans without judgment is both important for me and for the community. Communities should invest in organizations that invest in the community. And, given all the work the Post does and aspires to do, interest and support of the Post is time and resources well invested.”

The historic American Legion Post 13 is celebrating its centennial anniversary as the only Post to remain active for the last 100 consecutive years. U.S. Army Air Force Veteran and Legion Post 13 member John McGuire  shared with Pasadena Independent that the Legion Post 13 is important for him because it offers him the opportunity to be among others who understand and have lived the meaning of sacrifice. McGuire also shared why the community should support the American Legion Post 13, “For 100 years The American Legion has promoted the welfare and well-being of the returning American soldier. [It’s] a place of refuge from the storm.”

United States Navy Chief Petty Officer Michael O’Day also shared why the Legion Post 13 is important to him, “The Post is important to me because it’s a gathering of my brothers and sisters. A gathering of veterans helping each other grow, learn and overcome. It’s important to understand that the Post is not a building; it’s the veterans. Together we continue to serve each other and our community. Reaching out to service all veterans … not just the ones that belong to the American Legion.”

The comedy lineup for the event is quite prestigious. For example, one of the comedy stars featured for the evening is Paul Green. He is an award-winning standup comedian and actor who has performed all over iconic stages such as the Ice House, Hollywood Improv and the Laugh Factory, to name a few. Green has recently received the ‘Best of The Fest’ award from the Burbank Comedy Festival.

Andrew Norelli, another comedian to be featured at Comedy Saves Lives, has been featured on several late night shows including “Late Night with David Letterman” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” only to name a few.

New York Times bestselling author, comedian, musician, life coach and positive trainer Gregory Behrendt will also be starring in this incredible comedy lineup. He has worked on the HBO sitcom “Sex and the City” and has appeared on a long list of television shows throughout his career.

This is an incredible opportunity to support our local veterans and help raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention in our communities.
