Group Organizing Recall of Pasadena Councilman Concedes Defeat

Last week, a group called Pasadenans and Altadenans Against Police Violence announced it was joining the recall effort against Councilmember Victor Gordo.

This followed a bizarre exchange of emails between Shaun Szameit, owner of the Golden State Collective that was busted in December, and Councilman Gordo. Some of those emails may have crossed the line. The councilman believed and subsequently filed a complaint with the city attorney and made the emails public.

A spokesman for Pasadenans and Altadenans Against Police Violence, Ian Jameson, sent the following memo to local media Tuesday:

“After more carefully considering the logistical nightmare of unseating a five-term councilmember who in the last election garnered 64 percent of his district’s vote, [Pasadenans and Altadenans Against Police Violence] has decided a recall of Victor Gordo isn’t feasible. Pasadenans and Altadenans Against Police Violence therefore withdraws its announcement and will not be taking part in a recall of Councilmember Gordo.”

The initial attempt at a recall directed at Victor Gordo was inspired, in part, by Shaun Szameit who was arrested for operating an illegal pot dispensary on Mentor.
