Monday, May 20 Council to Proclaim National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend in Pasadena, June 7-9
At the May 20 council meeting, City Council will consider a proclamation to recognize June 7-9, 2019 as National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend in Pasadena. National Gun Violence Awareness, now in its fifth year, was created to honor the many lives that have been cut short by gun violence and to support efforts to reduce gun-related crimes. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting which begins at 6:30 p.m.
The proclamation affirms, “…gun violence touches every segment of our society and impacts people of all ages; it increases the probability of death in incidents of domestic violence; raises the likelihood of fatalities by those who intend to injure others, and among those who attempt suicide; it places children and young people at increased risk of physical harm and injury; and disproportionately affects communities of color.” The proclamation concludes by urging all citizens, businesses, organizations, and agencies to work collaboratively to reduce gun violence in the community, and will be received by Peace Over Violence, a non-profit organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence.
