Monrovia Public Library Foundation Hosts 5th Annual Team Up! Dream Up! For Literacy Fundraiser

For years the Monrovia Public Library has had an adult literacy program and a tutoring program for young people.  The Monrovia Literacy Foundation is holding a fundraiser on Sept. 29 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The event will include a desert bar, a scavenger hunt, and live and silent auctions.

One of the highlights of the fundraiser will be a book signing with Monrovia’s own literacy learner turned author, Mable Ngo. All the proceeds from the sale of her book will go to support the literacy services in Monrovia.

Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased on line at monorvialibraryfoundation.org. There are also $10 “Dining for Literacy” raffle tickets available for purchase at the Friends Book Store in the Library (just to the left as you enter the Library). This is a chance to win over $1,000 in gift cards to Monrovia restaurants.

The Library’s Literacy Services program provides resources and help to many in the community. Last year volunteer tutors provided 2,357 hours of instruction to adult learners. These hours helped the learners to change their lives as some earned their Graduate Equivalency Degrees (GED), others gained promotions at work or just read a bedtime story to a child.
