Monrovia Station Beer, Wine & Music Festival 2018 at Station Square Park, Sept. 15 from 5 – 8 p.m. (1601 S. Myrtle Ave., Monrovia, CA 91016). More than 30 craft beers and wines will be offered, delicious food will be for sale and music from the Swinging 8 Balls and The Sundowners will entertain everyone. General admission is $40 while VIP tickets are $50, designated drivers get in for $20 while VIP designated driver tickets are $25. Opening of “Letters from Masanjia” at the Laemmle’s Playhouse 7, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. (673 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91101). This documentary recounts the tale of an Oregon woman who finds an SOS message from a Chinese dissident in a package of Halloween decorations from Kmart, setting off a chain of events that would shut down the entire labor camp system in China and ignite the letter-writer’s dangerous quest to expose a deadly persecution.
