Monrovia Animal Medical Center Uses App to Share Medical Information
It was not long ago that all exchanges between pet parents and local veterinarians – appointments, prescriptions, medical records – were handled in-person, during business hours, and on paper.
Dr. Nicole Gueniat of Monrovia Animal Medical Center knew she had to find a modern solution that met the expectations of her clients today. “It’s essential if you want to stay in the now,” said Dr. Gueniat. “You really have to keep up with technology and the demands of the consumer.”
VitusVet co-founder and CEO Mark Olcott, who is a practicing veterinarian himself, offered the comprehensive solution Dr. Gueniat was wanting. “It was always about transparency and ensuring that veterinarians had the best information available to them to treat their patients, which reduces vulnerabilities for pets as well as medical errors.”
To date, the app has thousands of participating veterinarians and securely stores more than 185 million pet medical records from veterinarians across the county. Dr. Gueniat serves more than 1,000 clients on an annual basis and a good portion of them use the technology. However, she always encourages more.
“I demo the app to the client because of the mutual convenience,” said Dr. Gueniat. “They can schedule appointments through the app and I always show them the map where they can go to any veterinary clinic or ER specialist around the country, when there is an emergency or they are traveling. If the location is on your phone, you can always get there – and that is cool,” said Dr. Gueniat.
Another app capability she enjoys is the texting feature. “If I send lab results via the VitusVet text, they [pet parents] call me back in 10 minutes but if I email results to them, they call me next week,” Dr. Gueniat laughed. “Fifty percent of the emails I send are not being opened so I am not reaching my audience that way. It truly is simpler to reach my audience with VitusVet.”
