“Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz” Album Drop
Last night one of the most and least shocking moments of MTV’s video music awards was Miley Cyrus announcing the release of her “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz” album, an experimental bundle that she co-created with Wayne Cohen of The Flaming Lips (who’s dreamy space sound is extremely audible in Miley’s new songs). The drop is a 23-track package that she created for $50,ooo, without the help or knowledge of her label.
Say what?
Miley wrote the album in honor of her dog after it was eaten by coyotes while she was on a world tour. She met Wayne during this time and through a series of unorthodox healing practices was able to find solace in her music and reinventing herself once again. The outcome is nothing like what we’ve previously heard from the artist, but that’s exactly the point; Miley speaks freely and unapologetically on the album with notes like, “I can just do what I want to do, and make the music I want to make.”
She introduced the album to the world last night at the VMA’s with “Dooo It!,” a song that distortedly chants, “Yeah, I smoke pot/ Yeah, I love peace.” We’ve been listening to the album all morning and are really liking this new direction. Go #TeamMiley.
