The Monrovia Unified School District (MUSD) Food Service Department (FSD) will implement the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for Free Meals in the 2018 – 2019 school year at Canyon Early Learning Center (CELC) and at Canyon Oaks High School (COHS). Through CEP, CELC and COHS will offer meals at no charge to all students. This eliminates the procedure of distributing and processing meal applications and at the CEP school site, children no longer have to worry about the stigma associated with free or reduced price status.

The Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 includes the implementation of CEP to insure that every student in low-income neighborhoods and/or districts can participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). To qualify, a district or school must have 40 percent or more of its students eligible for free meals based on direct certification. CEP helps boost participation, helping schools ensure more students come to class well-nourished and ready to learn.

By participating in CEP and eliminating the need for meal applications, MUSD FSD will reduce administrative and printing costs. Families also benefit from the elimination of completing and submitting annual meal applications. For more general program information, visit the Food Service Department website.
