Hit-and-run driver leaves pedestrian dead in Hollywood
Police Tuesday sought the public’s help to identify a hit-and-run driver who left a person dead in Hollywood.
The suspect was driving a white 2018 Audi S5 westbound on Sunset Boulevard approaching North McCadden Place at about 8:45 p.m. Monday when the car struck the pedestrian, “who was laying on the roadway,” according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver of the Audi continued west on Sunset and made a U-turn. The person then exited the car, flagged down an LAPD officer and directed the officer to the pedestrian before reentering the car and fleeing eastbound on Sunset, police said.
Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead. Authorities could not say why the person was lying in the roadway prior to the accident. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
An investigation into the death was ongoing, and the LAPD reported “alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in this crash.”
Anyone with information on the hit-and-run death was asked to contact LAPD Traffic Division detectives at 213-473-0234. Calls made during nonbusiness hours or on weekends can be directed to 877-527-3247.
