Film Produced by Native Arcadian to Show for One Night Only at AMC Santa Anita

‘Four by 3000’ follows a team of four friends taking part in the toughest bike race in the world

“Four by 3000,” a full-feature documentary, offers an unprecedented look into the interworking of the Race Across America (RAAM), one of the most respected and longest running ultra-endurance events in the world, following Team Working Nation. Racing from Oceanside, Calif. to Annapolis, Md. teams of riders, must complete over 3,089 miles with 175,000 feet of climbing in under six days to have a chance of victory.

Although the film has been seen in select theaters across the country, there will be a special screening at 6:30 p.m. on April 17 at AMC Santa Anita (400 S. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia). This screening has special importance for one of the riders featured in the film. Kurt Broadhag, who both rode in the race and produced the movie, was born and raised in Arcadia. Graduating from Arcadia High School in 1988, he spent a great deal of early training riding throughout the San Gabriel Valley.

In an email to Arcadia Weekly Broadhag shared, “We have shown this in select theaters across the country but the screening in Arcadia is the one I am most proud of given it takes place in my hometown. I started racing in high school and have raced ever since but my initial training was done in Arcadia.  I will be at the screening and will do a Q-and-A after.”

Narrated by Sean Astin, the audience follows along as Team Working Nation tries to transform lofty goals into reality. As returning champions they not only want to defend their title but also set a world record for fastest time crossing the country on bike.

The film opens with a brief description of the year long process that goes into competing in RAAM and immediately moves into the action. Throughout the six days of racing the team is forced to deal with vehicle breakdowns, crew conflicts, severe weather, and family tragedy while trying to stay focused on their goals. Leading to the tension is the nonstop caravan of support vehicles and crew that must live out of vans for six days with little to no sleep. Follow their journey with never before seen footage in a story about the human spirit and the brotherhood/sisterhood of all who take part in the event.
