Resistance Through Art: Brainworks Gallery Presents “State of the Union”

In the weeks leading up to the presidential inauguration, various artists have come forward expressing fear and outrage, but also hope for a better future.  Joining the lineup of galleries presenting works of resistance is Erin Adam’s new artist-run space on Mid City’s vibrant West Pico Boulevard, Brainworks Gallery, with “State of the Union”, set to run Feb. 4 – Feb. 25.

Americans are divided, and the growing polarization between urban and rural communities, liberals and conservatives, and the widening gap between the wealthy and the poor has created deep and painful wounds in the national spirit. But art has always acted as a voice for the unheard, providing a place to begin much needed conversations of healing and renewal. The “State of the Union” hopes to “discover who we are as a nation, where we are hurt and how we can heal the divisions among us.”
