The former Santa Anita Inn, now almost completely razed, is the site for an elaborate new $300 million hotel development opposite the Santa Anita race track.

Developer Chateau Group USA held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Wednesday for the hotel and mixed-use development named Le Meridien, One Gallop Way.

Hundreds of officials from the city and state, as well as surrounding cities, joined in the ceremonies and enjoyed an elegant afternoon with gourmet food and drinks while they mingled with corporate giants and state and local officials.

The enormity of the project was not lost on State Treasurer and Gubernatorial candidate, John Chiang, who took to the podium with his interns. Chiang said developments like this one in Arcadia are indeed the future of prosperity for all.

CEO Eric Chen told the estimated 200 people in attendance that this project was tough initially but the support of Arcadia City staff helped the dream become a reality.

Le Meridien, by Marriott, is in the first phase of the multi-million dollar development. Situated on seven acres, Chateau Group USA has retained Pacifica Hotels as the management company for the hotel’s 227 rooms.

Architects Orange, interior design firm Linda Snyder Associates, and construction company Snyder Langston have been tapped to construct the project.

Council Member Tom Beck stood in for Mayor Sho Tay who could not be at the groundbreaking and said he is looking forward to the Hotel opening in 2020; and especially with the rooftop bar and pool overlooking Santa Anita Race Track.

The hotel is set to open during the first quarter of 2020.
