Law firm drops suit against Gloria Govan over attorneys’ fees

Less than a month after filing suit, a law firm has dropped its case against “Basketball Wives” star Gloria Govan, who allegedly owed nearly $190,000 in legal bills related to her divorce from Matt Barnes.

Lawyers for Brot Gross Fishbein LLP filed court papers on Aug. 24 with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Serena R. Murillo asking that the firm’s case be dismissed “without prejudice,” meaning it can be refiled later.

The court papers do not state if a settlement was reached or if the firm is not pursuing the case for other reasons.

The firm filed the breach-of-contract suit on Aug. 9, stating that the parties entered into an agreement for legal services in September 2016. Although the suit makes no reference to the Barnes divorce, the former couple ended their marriage that year and documents attached to the suit make mention of the marital breakup.

Barnes, 42, was a small forward who played 14 seasons for various NBA teams, including the Lakers and Clippers. In addition to her reality show resume, Govan, 36, has appeared in such films as “Chocolate City” and “More Family.” She married former Laker Derek Fisher, 48, in July 2021.
