THE SCOOP: 10 HALLOWEEN EVENTS IN LOS ANGELES

hall_blog

Still marveling over the genius of your Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke couple costume? But what good is the irony of your costume without a worthy stage to show it off on? Perhaps you’ve been too busy preparing your epic costume that you’ve forgotten to figure out where you’ll be partying. But don’t worry, you can get back to customizing your giant foam hand because we’ve done the homework for you. See below for a list of our picks for Halloween festivities.

EDITOR’S PICK: ASYLUM
When: Saturday, October 26th at 10pm
Where: Secret Location (DTLA)
What: This, my friends, is where it’s at for Halloween. Held in a secret warehouse location released the night of the party, the folks at Assembly Line Collective and UPXUNDR have teamed up with some of the best in music that LA has to offer. With a powerhouse line-up featuring Falcons, ESTA, Bahwee, Djemba Djemba, So Super Sam, Penthouse Penthouse, Lil Texas and much more, this is one asylum that you should be dying to check in to. Tickets must be purchased online, no door sales. | more info

THE PURGE: FEAR THE NIGHT
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday through Halloween, at 7:15pm-10:45pm
Where: Variety Arts Theater | 940 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90015
What: From the house that brought you “Paranormal Activity,” “Sinister,” and “Insidious,” Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Productions place you right in the thick of the dystopian world in which The Purge — a night where all crime is legal — is real. Visitors are taken on a guided walkthrough that takes them through the secrets and twisted minds of the New Founders of America — the very masterminds behind The Purge’s inception. | more info

THE “ALONE” EXPERIENCE
When
: Thursday, October 24 at 7pm
Where: Downtown Los Angeles
What: It’s Halloween and while costumes are fun, some of us really just want to get royally freaked out. If that’s the case, then the “Alone” Experience might be up your alley. There’s not much information on its the secret location other than it is a former fraternal order temple built for the Odd Fellows in 1924, and participants walk through its halls alone with nothing but a flashlight and whatever sick, disturbances are in store. | more info

MISS KITTY’S HALLOWEEN BALL MASSIVE 2013
When: Friday, October 25 at 9pm-2am
Where: Dragonfly | 6510 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90038
What: There’s a reason why Miss Kitty’s ball has been running for 13 years and counting, and we think it might have to do the combo of live DJ sets, burlesque performances, horror mazes, haunted hayride lapdancers, and the extra doses of kinky… but you don’t have to take our word for it. | more info

HALLOWEEN HOLLYWOOD PUB CRAWL 2013
When: Friday, October 25 at 5pm-2am
Where: Outpost Hollywood | 1624 North Cahuenga Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028
What: You can’t have an LA Halloween list and not include the famous Hollywood Pub Crawl, so throw on your costume and to get your drank on along the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame. It’s a wonder why this crawl is so famous considering you’re likely to forget it with deals like $2 draft beers, 2-for-1 mixers and $4 shots, but we’re not going to argue against indulging in cheap alcohol and cheesy costumes. | more info

BOO-OVER
When: Sunday, October 27 at 10pm-3am
Where: Lure | 1439 Ivar Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90028
What: LA’s favorite Sunday day party might have ended their summer season for now, but they’re bringing the funk back into West Hollywood for Halloween. True to Do-Over fashion, the Boo-Over is free with the only exception that a costume is required for entry. One piece of advice: whatever costume you don for the night, make sure its boogie-proof as the Do-Over’s main prerogative is to bring out the freshest DJs to their parties to get you down and dirty. | more info

143 HALLOWEEN EDITION 90s COSTUME CONTEST
When: October 30, 10pm-2am
Where: Footsie’s | 2640 Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90065
What: Who loves the 90s? Better question, who doesn’t love the 90s? Relive all your glory days — or maybe not-so-glorious for some of us — at So Super Sam and DJ siik’s monthly slow jam party “143”, featuring a 90s costume contest for the Halloween edition. Calling all Carlton’s, TLC’s, Tupac Shakur’s and Kriss Kross’s, we think we’ve found your new stomping grounds just in time for Halloween. | more info

A STONES THROW HALLOWEEN
When: Thursday, October 31, 8pm
Where: 2220 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90057
What: The cats behind Stones Throw have always given us the freshest in independent music, especially hip-hop. With head honcho Peanut Butter Wolf at the helm, the label counts acts like J Dilla, Dâm-Funk, James Pants, Mayer Hawthorne, Aloe Blacc, Madlib and more among its past and present acts. Catch the label with PB Wolf doing double-duty as alter-ego Folerio, alongside acts Vex Ruffin, Pyramid Vitra, and Chrome Canyon. | more info

HALLOWEEN: THE HOLLYWOOD AVENGERS
When: Thursday, October 31 at 10pm-3am
Where: Drai’s Hollywood | 6250 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90028
What: Drai’s Hollywood is calling out to all of LA’s best dressed and top notch folks to celebrate Halloween as the superheroes (or villains) that they are. Head over to the W Hotel to hear sounds from Posso, Tony Mendes and Teen Wolf all night, but don’t say that we didn’t warn you — get to Drai’s early or you’ll be out of it like Aquaman out of water. | more info

DIM SUM ‘COSTUMED’ CRAWL
When: Thursday, October 31 at 6:30pm-10pm
Where: Los Angeles Chinatown | 939 North Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012
What: We’ve done all the typical crawls that you find in LA: pub crawls, restaurant crawls, the crawl of shame — you name it. But a dim sum crawl? In costumes? With beer? We’re there! $60 will get you into four of Chinatown’s stellar restaurants — Chego, Golden Dragon Seafood Restaurant, Hop Woo Seafood & BBQ, and Starry Kitchen — for delectables expertly paired with craft brews from nearby Melody Lounge. We recommend you show up in costume to get bonus bites of “Dishes of Horror” that will feature some strange and out-of-this-world ingredients. | more info
