Energy secretary’s California tour furthers clean energy dialogue

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm embarked on a California tour this week, with stops that included Riverside County, to promote the Biden-Harris Administration’s clean energy initiatives.

Granholm’s schedule brought her to Menifee, where she examined a regional Connected Communities project on Monday. The project, which is spearheaded by KB Home, Schneider Electric, Southern California Edison and SunPower and financed by the Department of Energy, showcases over 230 all-electric, zero-energy homes powered by solar energy, alongside a dedicated community microgrid.

The next day, Granholm connected with over 700 tribal leaders at the Tribal Clean Energy Summit at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula. During the summit, she was expected to underline President Biden’s dedication to bolstering ties with tribal nations to cultivate an inclusive clean energy economy. This move is part of the administration’s continues efforts to boost Tribal energy sovereignty.

Granholm’s California journey began Monday in the Bay Area with a press conference, followed by a ribbon-cutting at Cuberg’s new battery innovation hub in San Leandro. Cuberg is an early member of the Department of Energy’s Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program

Prior to her appointment as the 16th secretary of energy, Granholm previously served as Michigan’s governor and later was a professor at the University of California, Berkeley.
