The Dreslyn Beauty Launches plus Q&A with Founder Brooke Taylor Corcia

The beauty industry is having a moment, not only is maximalism in (you know, a full face of makeup + falsies) but a little help from a good plastic surgeon holds just as much value as natural beauty itself. While most constituents of pop culture head towards stretching the limits of contoured beauty, The Dreslyn takes on a minimalist approach when it comes down to the curation of their new beauty department. The beauty shop will consist of organic skincare, hair products and styling tools, natural makeup and more from brands of the likes of BUTTERelixir, Helmut Lang, and Context- which should be noted, is absolutely the best unisex skincare brand. We chatted with founder, Brooke Taylor Corcia, about the decision of bringing on beauty brands, how LA transformed her sense of ideal beauty and what’s goes into achieving the perfectly natural look.

1 . LA CANVAS: Tell us about your journey in finding the best organic beauty brands.

Brooke Taylor Corcia: The idea to stock organic skincare grew from personal experience. Transforming my everyday regimen from a routine to a ritual has had an incredible impact and is something I deeply want to share with my audience, through beautiful products that look as good as they feel.

2.  LAC: When did you get interested in natural beauty products?

BTC: Living in Los Angeles has influenced my approach by opening me up to innovative new product lines formulated with health in mind.  Many of our collections were conceived by amazing women who could not find skincare formulations to meet their needs, and so created solutions with a holistic, results-driven approach.  I’m inspired by that kind of ingenuity and think it’s important to be informed about what we put into our bodies. Knowing the ingredients and how they promote wellness allows us to make intelligent choices and I’m always in favor of that.

3. What is your skincare regime?

BTC: My own regime is simple – wash, exfoliate, moisturize plus sunscreen, then concealer and a touch of cream-based blush or bronzer and I’m out the door.  Dewy, fresh skin is what I’m after.  I have pretty well-defined brows so enhancing them with a clear gel keeps things in line.  For evening, I’ll add a cream-based shadow or just blend whatever lip color I’m carrying on my lids.  I always wash up at night and love a good moisture mask.  I often use clay-based masks a few times a week, just to relax and rejuvenate.

4. If The Dreslyn had a signature makeup style, what would it be?

BTC: Definitely natural makeup! Our beauty approach is about enhancing the individual, not transforming into something (or someone) else.

BTC: It’s too soon to tell but I stand behind them all!
