`We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ added to Oscar telecast
Fans of the Oscar-nominated animated hit “Encanto” know the characters don’t like to talk about Bruno, but cast members from the film will be singing about him during Sunday’s Academy Awards.
“Encanto” cast members Adassa, Stephanie Beatriz, Mauro Castillo, Carolina Gaitan and Diane Guerrero, joined by Becky G and Luis Fonsi, will give the first live performance of the film’s signature song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” during the telecast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday.
While it’s the best-known tune from the animated film, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” didn’t receive an Oscar nomination for best original song. Another Lin-Manuel Miranda hit from the film, “Dos Oruguitas,” landed in the category and will be performed during Sunday’s telecast by Sebastián Yatra.
Three other original-song nominees will also be performed during the ceremony:
— Beyoncé will perform “Be Alive,” which she co-wrote for the film “King Richard”;
— Reba McEntire will perform Diane Warren’s nominee “Somehow You Do” from the film “Four Good Days”; and
— Billie Eilish and her producer/musician/brother Finneas will perform their nominated song “No Time to Die,” the title track for the James Bond film of the same name.
The only original-song nominee that won’t be performed during Sunday’s show will be “Down to Joy” from “Belfast.” According to the Academy, songwriter Van Morrison was invited to perform, but is unable to do so because of his tour schedule.
