Premiere: Mikey Lion + Deep Jesus drop playlist for Inception (6/20)

From the Desert Hearts crew and straight to your eardrums with musical love notes, Mikey Lion and Deep Jesus set forth one exquisite playlist—with a few words to detail out their selected tracks—to get us hyped for their DJ set this Saturday, June 20th at Exchange LA for a night of “Inception” alongside one hot DirtyBird, Claude VonStroke.

Desert Hearts has become one of the most unique experiences around, touting intimate 72 hour festival turn ups with the best musical acts around until the sunrise; meanwhile, the movement in between each DH activation allows us to get up close and personal with the founding members in forms of playlist drops such as this, DJ sets for LA CANVAS’ Dive Club pool parties, and having the Desert Hearts record label at our fingertips whenever we choose it to be. Here’s 6 from Mikey, 6 from Deep Jesus to add to your radar:

MIKEY LYON’S PICKS

Lonely Boy – Don’t You Think (Bengal’s Mojave Mix)

Desert Hearts artist, Bengal, has been on an absolute tear lately and this track has been crushing it since we put it out. Be on the lookout for a collaborative EP that I’m putting out with Bengal on Desert Hearts Records in the coming months.

Butch, Gel Abril – Juice Machine (Original Mix)

It’s hard to explain how good the groove is on this song. An absolute monster with that rude boy Jamaica vibe. Seriously I think this might be my favorite track of the year so far.

Robosonic – Busted

This song just has that old school Westside gangster hip hop vibe all over it. The synth is something you’d hear off Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” and it just builds and builds until the drop annihilates the dance floor. The song might be called busted, but it has never let me down once!

Javi Lopez – 90s Wasted (Alvaro Smart Remix)

I was lucky enough to have this one as a promo before it came out and time after time I would get asked what song it was when I played it. Alvaro Smart is this crazy consistent tech house producer from Ibiza who isn’t getting the credit he deserves. Hopefully this sends some love his way!

Latmun – Hard Play

This was the first song that I’ve ever heard from London producer, Latmun, and if his future productions sound anything like this one they’re going to be getting a ton of play time from me. Pretty much all of my favorite sounds & rhythms just perfectly mixed into one hell of a track.

Wade – Revolution

What can I say? I really like tech house. Any style of music that properly mixes my two favorite genres together, House & Hip Hop, is going to make me want to move. Wade comes through with an insane track here.

DEEP JESUS’ PICKS

Until 33 – Tasks & Time (Marten Sundberg Remix)

This is my number one track at the moment. There’s just the perfect combination of attitude and melody that really gets people going. It’s one of those tracks that makes you close your eyes and gets you super into the moment… Makes you forget everything else.

Dmitri Andres – Coari

I’ve been including this track in a bunch of my sets. It’s the ultimate energy pick-me-up and dance floor pleaser. It’s got that tribal feel that makes you feel super primitive. Especially when it gets played on a big outdoor system 🙂

MANDY – Montagsmaschine (Tim Green Remix)

Two of my favorite tech house producers on the same track. What’s not to love. It’s got a big room feel but with that mystical melody that creates a perfect combination for a packed floor.

Riva Starr – 1983 (street dance))

This is one of my favorite tracks to play when I’m playing b2b with Mikey. Its got that poppy feel good vibe to it that can’t help but make people’s booties bounce.

Yokoo – You Said I Would (Jonas Saalbach Remix)

This track brings it back down to the deeper side of things. Deep house is definitely my favorite style of music, hence the name! But this one really does it for me. It’s one of those tracks that can honestly be played any time, any where, and you will get the results you’re looking for

Bells & Whistles – Change Us

Last but not least comes from our boys Bells & Whistles. These dudes just get it in the studio. Their tracks, and vibe are second to none and they’re a pair to really keep your eyes on. Mint tune here from the boys!
