The Monrovia girls’ water polo team has been here before, but this time, it’s seeking to sustain their early season success all the way through league play and beyond.

Just like with most things in life, it’s not always how you start but more of how you finish.

In this case, Monrovia is off to a solid start once again as it emerged victorious in four of its first six games. However, this is similar to how last season played out where the Wildcats had an 11-5 preseason record only to go 2-6 in Rio Hondo League action.

This season, Monrovia kicked things off by taking down Flintridge Sacred Heart 6-3 on Nov. 26 while following that up with an 8-4 win over neighbors Arcadia the next day. The team then traveled to Burbank High School to compete in the Burbank Tournament where they went 2-2 with wins over Flintridge Prep and Burbank while losing to Lakeside and Marymount.

Kaitlyn Regan is leading the team in total goals with 13 to go along with 17 steals and three assists. Charlotte Gray is closely behind Regan with 11 goals of her own but already has eight assists under her belt. Isabelle Nguyen has also had a significant impact as she leads the team in assists with 11 while tallying 15 total steals.

Monrovia will next set their sights on a home match-up against Mark Keppel on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.
