Deja News: Friday the 13th

Hey SoCal! It’s Friday the 13th, but don’t fear. No matter what happens to you today, you’ll still be luckier than Amber Heard’s mattress. And for more drama you may have missed, Mike Ciriaco bringing it back to your brain with this week’s Deja News!

A judge won’t reduce bail for the man who attacked Dave Chappelle on stage.

The man accused of attacking comedian Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl lost a bid Tuesday to have his bail reduced.

An attorney for Isaiah Lee, 23, asked Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Armenui Amy Ashvanian to release him on his own recognizance. The judge declined the request, meaning Lee remains jailed in lieu of $30,000 bail.

A different judge last week also maintained Lee’s bail at $30,000. If he does manage to post bail and is released from custody, he will have to remain at least 100 yards away from Chappelle, the Hollywood Bowl and any venue where Chappelle is performing.

Lee is due back in court May 20 for a pretrial hearing.

We released our college search guide.

Writing this admissions process series has been a fulfilling endeavor for the past eight years. It is therefore with a certain degree of sadness that I’m letting you know that this will be my last college search guide. If your child is a senior who’s eagerly looking forward to graduation and going to university in the fall, I hope that this monthly guide has helped them (and you) get to the next stage of their educational journey. Thank you for the privilege!

Union health care workers went on strike at Cedar-Sinai.

On the day members of the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West started a weeklong “unfair labor practices” strike at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, top hospital officials Monday publicly questioned the union’s good faith in contract negotiations.

The SEIU-UHW, citing “unfair labor practices as well as employee and patient safety concerns, short-staffing and low wages,” walked off the job at 5 a.m. Monday.

We’ll be back next Friday with another Deja News. Until then, stay healthy, SoCal!
