Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins, Steve Miller Band headline BeachLife event

Thousands of music-lovers will flock to the shores of Redondo Beach Friday for the start of the three-day BeachLife Festival, headlined by Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins and Steve Miller Band.

Weezer will headline the first night of the festival Friday, with Smashing Pumpkins capping the festivities Saturday and Steve Miller Band wrapping things up Sunday.

Other artists on the bill over the three-day event include Black Pumas, Stone Temple Pilots, Sheryl Crow, UB40, Vance Joy, Jim Lindberg of Pennywise, Capital Cities, Sugar Ray, Rita Wilson, Ozomatli and Cold War Kids.

The festival, created in 2019, was scrubbed during the 2020 pandemic year, but returned last year. This year’s event will be the third installment of the concert intended to be an annual occurrence.

The event is held along the Redondo Beach shoreline north of the pier, with organizers billing the gathering as an effort “to inspire community, authenticity and generosity through the celebration of music, art and our Southern California beachlife culture.”

Performances will begin at 1 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Festivities wrap up by 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and by 9:30 p.m. Sunday.

Attendees will not be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and testing, and no masking will be required. The event’s website, however, warns attendees that exposure to COVID is an “inherent risk” in any large gathering.

“Thus, all attendees should evaluate their risk in determining whether to attend the festival,” according to organizers.

For those who prefer to avoid the crowds, some festival performances will be streamed online. The stream can be accessed each day at www.beachlifefestival.com or https://volume.com/beachlifefestival.
