Brush fire in Bouquet Canyon burns estimated 50 acres, 50% contained

The U.S. Forest Service was being assisted Monday by Los Angeles County firefighters in battling a brush fire in Bouquet Canyon in the Angeles National Forest that ignited from an overturned vehicle and has scorched an estimated 50 acres of grass and is now 50% contained.

The blaze was first reported about 2 p.m. at Bouquet Canyon and Spunky Canyon roads near the Bouquet Reservoir, north of Santa Clarita, according to the LA County Fire Department and U.S. Forest Service.

Water- and retardant-dropping aircraft were in the fire zone, according to the Forest Service. Firefighters are also using wildland fire engines, water tenders and hand crews in their battle against the brush fire.

A SigAlert was issued by the California Highway Patrol and Bouquet Canyon Road was closed for an undetermined amount of time. The SigAlert was canceled around 5:30 p.m. However, Bouquet Canyon Road remained closed.

No injuries were immediately reported and no structures were threatened.
