New Madea film leads Netflix movie viewership

“A Madea Homecoming” was last week’s most-streamed English-language movie on Netflix while “Inventing Anna” most popular television program for the third consecutive week, according to figures released by the streaming service Tuesday.

Viewers spent 31.56 million hours watching the first new film in the Madea franchise since 2019 in its first three days of release.

“The Tinder Swindler” dropped to second after three consecutive first-place finishes with 17.67 million hours watched of the true crime documentary between Feb. 21 and Sunday, its third full week of release, 48.7% less than the 34.45 million hours the previous week.

There was one other film in the latest top 10 not in the previous week’s. The action comedy “Red Notice” returned to the top 10 after a three- week absence, placing 10th with 4.97 million hours watched.

The 2014 Bill Murray-starring comedy “St. Vincent” and the 2019 British psychological thriller “The Vanishing” dropped out of the top 10.

Viewers spent 130.8 million hours watching the nine-episode limited series “Inventing Anna” in its second full week of release, 33.3% less than the 195.97 million hours watched the previous week.

The first season action-adventure drama “Vikings: Valhalla” was second with 80.56 million hours watched of its eight episodes in their first three days of release.

There were two other programs in the latest top 10 not in the previous week’s.

The second season of the Steve Carell-starring workplace comedy “Space Force” was eighth with 12.32 million hours watched of its seven episodes in their first full week of release.

The three-episode documentary about Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy” was 10th with 11.46 million hours watched in its first full week of release.

Dropping out of the top 10 were the first season of the superhero drama “Raising Dion,” the fourth part of the animated satirical fantasy “Disenchantment” and the first season of the comedy mystery, “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window.”

The 10 most-watched English-language movies on Netflix were “A Madea Homecoming”; “The Tinder Swindler”; “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”; “Downfall: The Case Against Boeing”; “Despicable Me 2”; “Fistful of Vengeance”; “Tall Girl 2,””Abominable,” “Despicable Me” and “Red Notice.”

The 10 most-watched English-language television programs on Netflix were the limited series “Inventing Anna”; the first season of “Vikings: Valhalla”; the second season of “Love Is Blind”;  the first season of “One of Us Is Lying”; the first season of “The Cuphead Show!”; the second season of “Sweet Magnolias”; the first part of the fourth season of “Ozark”; the second season of “Space Force”; the second season of “Raising Dion”; and the documentary series “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy.”
