Monrovia Hires First Female City Manager
Palmdale’s Assistant City Manager Laurie Lile will replace former Monrovia City Manager Scott Ochoa, who resigned in January to move to Glendale.
Lile spoke with Beacon Media Wednesday afternoon from her office in Palmdae.
“I’m so excited about this new job in Monrovia. It’s a beautiful City and communiutry and I’l looking forward to getting to work on April 30.” Lile said in a telephone interview.
Mark Alvarado, the city’s finance director, has been serving as interim city manager since Ochoa’s resignation. Her contract is scheduled to be approved later this month and her base salary will be $185,000.
Lile was selected from more than 60 city manager candidates and will control a budget of about $65 million. The hiring processs in which some members of the community felt excluded , took aboy 60 days.
The Monrovia City Council announced Tuesday that Laurie Lile, the current Assistant City Manager of Palmdale, has accepted an offer and will take over as the city’s next city manager.
While Lile has accepted the city’s offer, the council must approve it at the next scheduled council meeting. The council was unanimous in its decision to hire Lile.
Lile is expected to start her new job at the end of the month.
While Laurie Lile is the first hired female city manager there have been other women in Monrovia who have held the position including: Jeanne Kennedy assistant/interim 1983 , Ruth Martinez , Nov 92 whop was also interim appointed as was Kay Jimenez was also assistant city manager.
