The city’s Development Review Committee (DRC) approved the applications for the Marriott’s TownePlace Suites hotel project and the AvalonBay multi-family housing project on Myrtle Avenue. Facing no public input in opposition and after a thorough review by the DRC, both plans were unanimously approved. The next step is consideration by the Planning Commission on Aug. 15.

The TownePlace Suites is a development by Tharaldson Investments of a 109-room, five-story hotel. It will be located at the southwest corner of Huntington Drive and Myrtle Avenue.  The hotel will feature three styles of rooms: one-bedrooms, as well as double-queen and king studios. There will be an indoor exercise room, a breakfast room, a lounge, and an outdoor seating area. The parking for the hotel will be outdoors with 109 parking spaces for guests and staff.

In contrast, the AvalonBay project involves a multi-use building with 154 residential apartment units and retail space on the ground level. The five-story, six-level structure will include 286 parking spaces, as well as 3,500 square feet of retail space. Thirteen of the apartments will be reserved for lower-income residents.
