On Thursday, Nov. 1, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) hosted “United Against Hate” an interfaith solidarity event, to demonstrate support for inclusion, pluralism, and solidarity with the Jewish community in response to the shooting at Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. The event, held at Memorial Park in Pasadena featured Rep. Chu, community leaders, and interfaith organizations working to build solutions and create policies that will prevent future tragedies.

Hundreds of people of all ages from all faiths and denominations listened silently to the speakers as each described the horrors of hatred in America and in particular the recent senseless attacks on the Jewish community.

John, a resident of Pasadena, was among the hundreds who attended the vigil because the need for interfaith solidarity was important to him following the events of Pittsburgh.

“I think part of what was important as someone who identifies with Christian faith is that I frequently see this lack of support for our Jewish brothers and sisters, and I think that is important for us to be able to support each other not just in times of tragedy but in general,” John said. “It’s very important we stand together and show that we are here for each other.”

The gathering, at Memorial Park, was one “far too many” Rep. Chu said she attends and called for a more peaceful and unified community and government.

Those in attendance included:
