Mark Terrill/AP UPDATE: Labor Day weekend, which has featured record-breaking heat and wildfires, has continued to see a steady decrease in new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County . The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirmed Monday 494 new positive cases of COVID-19, more than 300 fewer cases than Sunday’s showing. Monday’s count, though confirming a decline in new positive cases, shows an increase in COVID-19 related deaths. Officials counted 25 COVID-19 deaths, up from Sunday’s five new ones. Public Health said the low number of cases and deaths were a result of delays in test and death reports due to the holiday as testing sites were closed over Labor Day weekend. Monday’s update also shows a continued decrease of current hospitalizations, with a total of 943 patients in hospitals for the infectious disease or related complications. As of Monday officials confirmed a total of 248,821 positive COVID-19 cases and 6,030 deaths.
