Pasadena – Thinking Ahead of the COVID-19 Curve

Pasadena Opens Field Hospital at Convention Center

On Thursday morning a temporary medical facility at the Pasadena Convention Center was unveiled for the local media. City Manager, Steve Mermell said this facility would supplement Huntington Hospital’s care of COVID-19 patients,  “…should the need arise.”

Pasadena is thinking ahead of the curve, according to vice-mayor Tyron Hampton.

With the latest news that Pasadena’s Health Dept. now has confirmed 184 COVID-19 cases within the city boundaries and 2 new deaths bringing Wednesday’s toll to 14 deaths. The city is working on a new dashboard to be posted t weekly on the city’s website, according to an email Wednesday from Lisa Derderian, Pasadena Public Information Officer

Last week, City Manager entered into a contract with Redrock Entertainment Services, in an amount not-to-exceed $700,000 for the new field hospital.

Temporary Medical Facility, or Alternate Care Site, at the Pasadena Center is initially for a three month period trial period.

Council authorized the city manager to enter into a “zero-dollar Services Agreement with Pasadena Hospital Association .

On hand Thursday morning were Police Chief Perez along with Pasadena’s health director, Dr. Ying Ying Goh The site is set up with the exception of the medical equipment that would be instituted along with medical staff should the need exist. The initial set up includes 250 beds.
