Pasadena Police officers extended a helping hand last week by replenishing dwindling pantry’s at local food banks. As COVID-19 continues to surge through Los Angeles and Pasadena, food banks have stepped up to feed the homeless, elderly and recently unemployed.
Pasadena PD partnered with Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse, Vitco Foods, and Dog Haus Restaurant to donate food items to Friends In Deed, the Pasadena Job Center, Union Station, Salvation Army and Foothill Unity. They also raised $700 from internal donations from the men and women from the PD, to help with purchasing gift cards.
They received over 1,000 pounds of food, including basic essentials such as milk, eggs, canned food, cereal and any other packaged foods approved for use at food banks. With the money donated by Pasadena Police Officers, they purchased two dozen gift cards from a grocery market that they will give to day laborers from the Pasadena Job Center, who are now out of work.
“We are all in this together,” said Pasadena’s Commander Jason Clawson. Police staff facilitated the fundraiser by bringing together all of the different local businesses and nonprofits together to help one another during these trying times.
“We all need to stand up for one another during this time. But it’s not just us … Anyone from the community can step up and help. These are difficult times; together we are stronger, trying to build a safer community.”
