Brandon Karmann is back at the Arcadia Police Department, this time as chief, city officials said Monday.
Karmann is 24-year law enforcement veteran and started his career in Arcadia in 2002.
“Returning to Arcadia as Chief of Police is deeply meaningful to me,” Karmann said in a statement. “This is where my law enforcement career began, and I’m honored to return and serve the department, the City, and the community.”
Karmann most recently served as a captain with the West Covina Police Department. There he spent over two decades in leadership, investigative and administrative roles, according to Arcadia officials. He led major operations and efforts to improveme training, community engagement and department technology, including upgrading the dispatch and records systems and expanding body‑worn and in‑car cameras.
“This is a full-circle moment for Chief Karmann, and I am excited to welcome him back to Arcadia to lead the Police Department,” City Manager Dominic Lazaretto said in a statement. “His background reflects a strong commitment to collaborative leadership and community policing, and I look forward to seeing him build upon the Department’s successes and longstanding partnerships.
Lazzaretto also recognized APD Capts. John Bonomo and Kollin Cieadlo, who served as interim chief following the retirement in July of Chief Roy Nakamura after 34 years in law enforcement.
Lazaretto appointed Chief Karmann following a nationwide search.
Karmann said he believes employees are the department’s most valuable asset.
“When people feel supported, respected, and empowered to do their jobs well, the entire organization grows stronger and the community benefits,” he said. “I look forward to working alongside our dedicated employees, building strong relationships with our community, and continuing to make Arcadia a safe and welcoming place for everyone.”
Karmann has a master’s degree in criminal justice from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s in criminology from the University of La Verne.
His first day as Arcadia’s 31st chief of police was Monday, Oct. 19.
