Registration for the “Run for Office and Win!” candidate training workshop is now open. The workshop is for women who have thought about running for public office or have questions about what running for office is like. Participants will be able to ask questions and hear from elected women and campaign specialists in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
The workshop will be on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Los Angeles County Arboretum, located at 301 N. Baldwin Ave. The cost to attend is $10. Register at www.nwpcsgv.org.
The National Women’s Political Caucus of the San Gabriel Valley is sponsoring the candidate training workshop to encourage women’s participation in the political process.
Speakers include:
- Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor, 5th Supervisorial District,
- Nadia Abrica, Congressional Campaign Director for the winning George Whitesides campaign for the 27th Congressional District
- Megheti DerBoghossian, Social Media Strategist and City of Pasadena District 2 Liaison.
The workshop includes a welcome networking coffee, speakers, a practical “how-to” take-home workbook, lunch, and free admission to the Arboretum for the day. There will be time for questions and answers and the opportunity to meet many local elected women.
Tammy Silver, president of the NWPC-SGV states, “The time is now to have equal representation for women in all levels of government. We find that even today, in the San Gabriel Valley, there are many city councils, school boards and water boards which fall woefully short in the number of women elected to these offices. Good governance requires the voice of 50% of the population when considering issues that affect our daily lives.”
The National Women’s Political Caucus of the San Gabriel Valley actively encourages and supports women running for office in the San Gabriel Valley, from school board to city council, the state legislature, and more. Visit www.nwpcsgv.org for more information.
