The city of Burbank is hosting a series of community meetings to gather input from residents on a potential rent cap on residential rental housing units in the city.
For the past year and a half, the Burbank City Council enacted tenant protections that affect tenants and landlords, and council members are considering a rent cap and seek input from residents.
Five meetings, three in-person and two virtual, are planned with interpretation services in Armenian or Spanish. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required. To register, visit BurbankRentCapStudy.com.
The meetings are scheduled for:
- In-person
- Saturday, Sept. 7, 9 a.m. at the Joslyn Adult Center;
- Thursday, Sept. 12, 6 p.m. at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport; and
- Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m. at The Hotel Burbank.
- Virtual
- Monday, Sept. 9, noon; and
- Tuesday, Sept. 17, 6 p.m.
Each meeting will provide the same information in order to offer a variety of scheduling options for attendees.
Information provided at these meetings and on the website includes:
- Existing state-level tenant protection under the California Tenant Protection Act, known as AB 1482;
- Tenant protections established in the last 18 months;
- Ideas for a local rent cap;
- Enforcement and administration procedures of a future rent cap .
Residents who don’t attend a meeting will have the opportunity to give feedback via an online form, which will be accessible on BurbankRentCapStudy.com no later than Aug. 22, officials said.
