A 53-year-old man who who walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in Los Angeles County on Sunday was apprehended Monday morning, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced.

Anthony Tarin was apprehended in the city of Monterey Park without incident at approximately 10:35 a.m., according to CDCR. He will be transported to the California Institution for Men for reception and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for possible escape charges.

On Sunday night, officials were alerted that Tarin had removed his GPS device and walked out of the MCRP facility.

“Tarin was received from Los Angeles County on Oct. 24, 2023,” CDCR said in a statement Monday. “He was sentenced to two years, eight months for attempted robbery, a second-strike offense.” Tarin has been housed at MCRP Los Angeles County since Apr. 8.

“The MCRP allows eligible offenders committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the re-entry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community,” CDCR said. “It is a voluntary program for male offenders who have two years or less left to serve. The program links offenders to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.”
