SoCal gasoline pump prices increase after 33-day plunge

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose by its largest amount since Oct. 4 Wednesday, increasing seven-tenths of a cent to $5.528 after dropping 33 of the past 34 days.

The average gasoline price dropped 97.3 cents over the previous 34 days, including three-tenths of a cent Tuesday, to its lowest amount since Sept. 20, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. The average price dropped 31 consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Sunday, then resumed decreasing Monday.

The average price is 3.8 cents less than one week ago and 88.2 cents lower than one month ago, but 93.7 cents more than one year ago.

The Orange County average price rose by its largest amount since Oct. 5, increasing eight-tenths of a cent to $5.42, 2.1 cents less than one week ago and 90.8 cents lower than one month ago, but 87.1 cents more than one year ago.

The national average gasoline price rose one-tenth of a cent to $3.805, one day after remaining unchanged. It is 4 cents more than one week ago and 38.6 cents higher than one year ago but 10.5 cents less than one month ago and $1.211 lower than the record of $5.016 set June 14.
